There are some newborn sessions that feel especially meaningful. Not simply because the photographs are beautiful, but because you can feel the story behind them. This was one of those sessions. This sweet Boulder family had been waiting a long time to meet their baby. Their first baby. A deeply loved and long-awaited little one who had already changed their world before they ever held her in their arms. And when I arrived at their beautiful Boulder home for their in-home newborn photography session, there was a quiet sense that this season was something worth slowing down for.
A Newborn Session Designed Around Mom
One of my favorite parts of offering a full-service newborn experience is that Mom doesn’t have to spend the morning trying to pull everything together. For this session, Mom had professional hair and makeup done before we began, and she was able to choose from my client wardrobe for something beautiful and comfortable to wear. Because while the baby is obviously the star of a newborn session, Mom deserves to feel beautiful in these photographs, too. My goal is to take as much of the planning off your plate as possible, from wardrobe and styling to guiding you through your portraits so that when your session day arrives, you can simply be present with your baby.
A Beautiful Boulder Home Filled With Light
Their home was absolutely beautiful. Thoughtfully decorated, warm and inviting, with beautiful natural light throughout. Rather than staying in one room, we moved through different areas of the home as the light changed, using the spaces that felt the most beautiful at different points throughout the session. We photographed in the nursery, incorporated the living spaces, and found pockets of gorgeous window light throughout their home. I love this approach to in-home newborn photography in Boulder because your home becomes part of the story. These aren’t photographs that could have been taken anywhere. They’re photographs of your home, your nursery, your light, and your family during the very beginning of this new chapter.
Turning Their Newborn Photographs Into Art
The experience doesn’t end when the session is over. After we created their photographs, we continued the process together by thoughtfully selecting the images that best told their story and designing a beautiful gallery wall for their home. Using their home’s style, the spaces we photographed, and the images they loved most, we created a custom design that allows these photographs to become part of their everyday life—not something that lives hidden away on a hard drive.
I love helping my clients think beyond simply having beautiful photographs and instead deciding how they want to, because these images deserve to be seen. They deserve to be enjoyed every day as you walk through your home, pass the nursery, or sit together in the spaces where your family is growing.
